Thief of the Night Guild by Andy Peloquin

The first book of Queen of Thieves (Child of the Night Guild) was "an edge of your seat, fast-moving and unforgettable read" and I was eager to read this second book.

Thief of the Night Guild is everything I hoped it would be, and much more!

Ilanna is now a strong and determined journeyman, a professional thief and a woman in what is mainly a mans world. She wants to secure her freedom from the guild and protect her son from its clutches.

The characters were so skilfully drawn that I felt as though I was living along side them.
So I joined Ilanna and her accomplices as they strived to pull off the greatest heist in Praamis.
Andy Peloquin's fluent and descriptive writing ensured that I felt the joy of friendship and suffered heartache and pain from the betrayal and loss of our friends.

Illana's story - so far - is one that will stay with me for a very long time.
And I am now waiting on tenterhooks for the next book in the series.

Synopsis:

"I am Ilanna, Journeyman of House Hawk. I do the impossible."

A cunning thief of unrivaled ingenuity, Ilanna is determined to secure her freedom. Nothing will prevent her escape from the Night Guild's callous cruelty, not even the most powerful man in Praamis, Duke Phonnis.

Commanding a crew of pickpockets, bounty hunters, poisoners, and assassins, Ilanna schemes to disgrace the Duke. She must survive blackmail, a bloodthirsty rival syndicate, and enemies within her own House to claim her spoils: vengeance for the deaths of her friends and gold to buy independence.

But all Ilanna's skill may not suffice to protect the one person who matters most: her son.

The Author:

I am, first and foremost, a storyteller and an artist--words are my palette. Fantasy is my genre of choice, and I love to explore the darker side of human nature through the filter of fantasy heroes, villains, and everything in between. I'm also a freelance writer, a book lover, and a guy who just loves to meet new people and spend hours talking about my fascination for the worlds I encounter in the pages of fantasy novels.

Fantasy provides us with an escape, a way to forget about our mundane problems and step into worlds where anything is possible. It transcends age, gender, religion, race, or lifestyle--it is our way of believing what cannot be, delving into the unknowable, and discovering hidden truths about ourselves and our world in a brand new way. Fiction at its very best!

The Hunger Within by Lily Luchesi

Vampirism isn't all sex, blood, and handcuffs.
She's not all whips and orgasms.

Title: The Hunger Within
Author: Lily Luchesi
Release Date: July 29th, 2017
Publisher: Hot Ink Press (an imprint of CHBB Publishing)
Genres: Erotica, BDSM, F/F, LGBT+, Paranormal, Paranormal Romance
Cover art: Designed by Rue Volley

Newly turned vampire Rebecca Renfield is about to discover that there is much more to the world of theUndead than sex, blood, and handcuffs. Her sire and Mistress is the direct descendant of Count Dracula, and that means she has a reputation to uphold. Meetings with vampiric dignitaries, secret blood and bondage dungeons, and vampire hunters now fill the couple's nights. is this world everything Bec thought it would be, or will she fall under the pressure of what it means to be the submissive to the most powerful vampiress in the world?

The body of my best friend for the past twelve years was lying on the entryway floor, nearly bloodless. Her glassy eyes stared at the ceiling in disbelief and eternal fear. I hoped that the undertaker fixed that, or else she’d give the visitors at her funeral quite a shock. Not that the dual vampire bites and broken neck wouldn’t be startling enough.

What was I doing as my friend’s body lay cooling? I was pushed up against the wall in the very same hallway, tasting her blood on my lips and having my clothes torn off of me by my impatient and unbearably sexy Sire and Mistress, Victoria Draconis.

Her now blood-warmed hands tugged down my tank top and tore off my bra in a bloodlust filled haze, leaving bloody handprints on my pale flesh. The eyes that were usually black were now burning with Hellfire, and I am sure mine were as well. She leaned in and licked the blood from the side of my face, her body holding me flush against the wall.

The feelings inside of me were heady and intoxicating, a dark mix of lust, satisfaction, anticipation, and warmth I had never known before. Victoria had told me that there was no better sex than that which took place right after a first feeding, and she seemed to be correct. She hadn’t even touched more than a breast on me and already I was more turned on than I had ever been.

I wanted to make the job go quicker and help remove the rest of my clothing, but I refrained. Victoria hadn't told me that I could and I didn’t want to risk angering her. And no way in Hell would I touch hers without express permission.

“So pliant,” she said, her deep, accented voice giving me chills. “You are a fast learner, my pet.” Her lips captured mine again as she slid my leggings and panties down. I stepped out of them and my sneakers in two quick movements.

Victoria’s hands went to the back of her corset and began to unlace it. Despite it being the twenty-first century, she dressed like a Victorian lady....if ladies of bygone days wore four-inch black leather heels and liked to whip other women for fun, that is. The garment fell away from her body, exposing her large, soft breasts as she then stepped out of her skirt, leaving her heels and sheer red panties on.

Fingers tugged at my nipples, hard, but I was now used to worse.

“As I said, I knew I’d increase your pain threshold,” she said, a smug smile on her face. One hand slithered from my breast up my chest and neck, pressing ever so slightly on my throat now. “On the ground, on your hands and knees. Now.”

I obeyed, too full of arousal to care that I was about to kneel in freshly spilled blood. There was a rustling from behind me and then there was a sharp pain on my arse. She’d removed the belt from my jeans and had proceeded to use it as a whip, something she had done once before when the proper tools weren’t in easy reach.

Victoria loved giving pain, just as much as I loved taking it as I arched my back to meet her next stroke. I hadn't been her sub for very long. In fact, I had just discovered the lifestyle when we met a month ago, but I was so glad that I’d found her...found this.

The next slap of the belt was right between my legs and I let out a cry, somewhere between pain and arousal as the leather connected with my now throbbing clit. I slid forward in the slippery blood, just a bit, and heard my Mistress’ dark laughter behind me.

A few more strokes with the belt adorned my arse, back, and between my shoulder blades, sending me forward even more. The friction--or lack thereof--on the floor had me sprawling, my body now covered in blood as I fought for purchase.

Victoria laid off with the belt, and I felt her sharp heel digging into my back, pressing me downwards despite my effort to remain on all fours.

“Be a good pet and lick it up,” she commanded. “Not all of it, just what’s in front of you.”

The fuck? This was new, at least to me.

I yelped as a fresh wave of pain hit me: Victoria had noticed my hesitation and whipped me straight down my spine.

“Did I stutter, slut?”

Review:

The Hunger Within is not your customary stereotypical vampire story.... It's a heck of a lot steamier!

There's a lot of action and intrigue packed into this short story from Lily Luchesi, as Bec starts her new life alongside her dominating sire and fathoms out how to deal with all the complications that go with it.

~Rainne

Lily Luchesi is a young author/poet born in Chicago, Illinois, now residing in Los Angeles, California. Ever since she was a toddler her mother noticed her tendency for being interested in all things "dark". At two she became infatuated with vampires and ghosts, and that infatuation turned into a lifestyle.

She is the award-winning author of the Paranormal Detectives Series, published by Vamptasy Publishing. She also has short stories included in the following anthologies: Death Love Lust, Naughty Bedtime Stories: In Three Words, Naughty Bedtime Stories: Four You, Lurking in the Shadows, Lurking in the Mind, and Beautiful Nightmares.

When she's not writing, she's going to rock concerts, watching the CW, or reading manga.

What inspired me to write The Hunger Within

The Hunger Within really started with A Bloody Legacy, the 15k word novelette I released this past April with Hot Ink Press.

BDSM has always been interesting to me, not just because of the sexual aspect but the psychological one as well. It takes two entirely different types of people to be doms/dommes and subs, and different reasons for why each role appeals to them. However, I never thought about writing it at all, though I had penned some erotica short stories for anthologies.

My publisher said femdomme was becoming a trend in books and that there was a lack of it. Somehow, that night, the idea for A Bloody Legacy came to mind.

I am a vampire nerd. Ask anybody. Vampires dominate (pun intended) my work, and I was always intrigued by Dracula and Stoker’s portrayal that he basically had a small harem with his three brides, plus wanting Lucy and then Mina.

Right away my mind went not to Dracula himself, but to a daughter, the next in line to take over the House of Dracul. From there, I thought about Renfield, and how Dracula wasted an opportunity in killing him when he was such a faithful servant (and really was submissive when you read between the lines). So right away, a female Renfield popped into my head with all of the submissive nature but none of the mental illness.

I hadn’t planned on writing a full length novel for the two women, Victoria and Bec, but right away my readers came to me and said, “We need more!” Not want, but need. I am not a plotter, ideas have to come naturally to me.

It took maybe a week before the idea came, and I still have no freakin’ clue how it happened. But I’m glad it did.

As I wrote, I knew I wanted to delve deeper into the psychology of a new sub in a relationship with an experienced domme. We dommes can be cold and calculating due to our positions, often hiding our softer emotions to play our roles. I wanted to explore that line of thinking and how it can confuse a sub, especially a new one.

I also wanted to add in more action, because I grew up with violent vamps, not sexy ones. But to me, violence and power can be very sexy indeed, and that was another thing I made sure to point out in the narrative. To tell the truth, this was also an excuse to write about bloodplay in a very natural setting.

My mind is a melting pot, and everything just stirred together like a big stew and turned into The Hunger Within. Sex, blood, and handcuffs. Love, mystery, and mind games. I hope readers enjoy the book half as much as I enjoyed writing it. Vampires wielding whips and chains as well as fangs? Yes please...

A professional surfer struggles to reclaim the Championship when a travel writer is assigned to observe his journey between events. What seems like a dangerous diversion, both in and out of the water, forces him to accept that there's more missing from his life than another trophy.

When he won his first World Title at eighteen, they said he’d be the greatest professional surfer to ever compete. Author Bio:

A. L. Goulden has a BFA in Film Production from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Her love of a good story came way before college, but when numerous instructors and peers praised her dialogue she realized her creative writing hobby was a skill worth honing. Her 18 year career in interior design, production design and art direction for film and television have spun a unique perspective on visually emotional tales of relationships and the thread that ties all things together.

DREAM CAST for Chasing Swells

I don’t always have a Hollywood inspiration for my characters, so the idea of casting for this book would be daunting. There are few actors in Hollywood that could pull off the intense surfing so my “Dream Cast” for this particular book would include real professional surfers. We’ll just pretend they’re great actors.

Dean “DeBaz” Bazner
Dean is a little of each of these pro surfers:

Kelly Slater / Luke Stedman / Mick Fanning / Owen Wright

If there really were a film of this book, I think I’d push for one of the Hemsworth brothers to play Dean. They can surf a little and walk the line between serious athlete and light romantic comedy with as much sexy heat as the story needs.

For two FBI agents with a past, love becomes a matter of life and death in the new Hidden Sins novel from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert.

Maggie Gaines used to be an FBI agent—top of her class and one of the bright, up-and-coming stars—until she spectacularly fell apart during her first high-profile case. That was eight years ago. Now she’s a ranger at Glacier National Park, and she’s found some measure of peace. But when the body of a murdered woman is discovered, she must finally put the past behind her and work with the one man she thought she’d never see again.

For months, Vic Sutherland has been hunting a killer who’s been targeting unsuspecting hikers in national parks—and now the predator has come to Glacier. Vic knows the case will bring him face-to-face with his former partner, yet nothing can prepare him for seeing Maggie again after all these years, or for the memories of passion it stirs in both of them.

As the investigation brings them closer together—and closer to the killer—Maggie and Vic fear they have only each other to trust. But even that might not be enough to make it out of Glacier alive.

Vic’s gaze fell on his phone. Maggie’s number was now in the contacts folder. It would be easy to dial it, just to check on her.

Except it was late, and she hadn’t asked for him to babysit her.

He’d gone years without seeing her, and now that they were in the same general area, it was like they were two magnets that could barely resist the pull. He wanted to hear her voice, to sit her down and share a meal that wasn’t military issue, to actually talk.

His phone rang, which startled him so much he almost dropped it. Vic stared at the screen for several precious seconds, wondering if he was more tired than he’d thought, because it sure as fuck looked like Maggie was calling him. “Sutherland.”

      “It’s me.”

He sat on the edge of the bed, suddenly painfully aware that he wore only a towel. It shouldn’t matter. She couldn’t see him, didn’t know what he was or wasn’t wearing, but it did matter. “Hey, Maggie.”

“I have to apologize.” He could almost feel her soft sigh. “You were right, and I was acting like a stubborn kid. This whole thing—the murders in the park and having to deal with my past and you—has got me all twisted up.”

Maybe it was the events of the last two days, but he was so goddamn tired of doing the noble thing. He never put himself or his personal shit before a case. Not once.

      He’d never wanted to before.

      “I twist you up?”

“As if you didn’t know. I had something of a crush on you when we were partners—which I’m sure you knew after I threw myself at you—and apparently I didn’t outgrow it as much as I thought.”

The dimness of the room evoked an intimacy he didn’t deserve. Was Maggie sitting in her bedroom in low light, too? He liked the picture that made. “You have nothing to apologize for.”
“I’ve been making an ass of myself since you stepped off that helicopter.” She shifted, the sound painfully loud in the near silence. “And I’m doing it again, apparently. My whole point was that I’m sorry and I’ll be professional from now on. You don’t have to worry about any breakdowns or hissy fits.”

If he was smart, he’d take her apology for what it was and allow it to move them back to solid ground. There were lives on the line and a condensed timeline that was only going to get more condensed with each body that popped up.

But when Vic spoke, he didn’t move them back to firm ground. He threw them right over the edge of the cliff. “Fuck being professional. I want you, Maggie. Not the former FBI agent. Not the park ranger. I want you.”

Praise for The Hidden Sins Series:

“…a captivating read, made all the more rewarding when good triumphs.”
 —Washington Post

“Robert shows off her impressive versatility in this fast-paced and inventive new Hidden Sins series. The small-town setting is a masterful blend of quaint and oppressive, which ratchets the menace and thrill factor. The protagonists carry the full weight of their pasts with them, making their growing relationship as compelling as the mystery element in The Devil’s Daughter. With plenty of twists and betrayals, this is a book that is sure to earn Robert a wealth of new fans.”
